In mid 2018, I was approached by the Head Student of the residence I stayed in with a proposition that I could not resist. He said he wanted me to help redesign and renovate the pub. He wanted to dream with me and bring to reality what the residences pub could become. Alongside him (Project Manager) and another resident(Design Lead) we set to work with me as the Electronics lead.

A picture of the pub back in 2017

The project took over a year to complete as there was a lot of lead time when it came to orders being made as well as installations that we could not do as just the students. What was fortunately easy to start on was designing the new room through Fusion 360. This was a long and arduous task that I managed to complete over the first holiday I had available. The design lead had envisioned and sketched up some mock designs and it was up to me to create a 3D model of what he was envisioning.

It was the above sketches that I compiled to make a 3D model which I presented to the team. For the first time, these renders allowed the team to see what we were working towards. They also gave a good indication of the light levels we would be having since the room had no source of natural light besides the main entrance doors.

With all the design work done, it was time to start building up the new pub. This started out with cleaning up the room which uncovered just how old and how much history the room had collected over many years. After the cleaning came the removal of most all the collectibles that had gathered in the room from past students. This was followed by the repainting of the wall and the mural being painted. It was at this moment that the entire project seemed doable and inspirational! There was progress and there was activity.

Over the next period of time, a lot of the installations were put in and most of the items needed were delivered. There were just  a few hiccups with regards to making everything work together seamlessly however most of the expectations were met and quite nicely. It is now a vibrant room which is more accessible and pleasurable to be in.

NB: There are still some photos to be added to the galleries. Humphrey please remember!
